New York

The internet does not need a guide to New York from me, there are already so many specialist sites. I cannot think of an obscure enough search that wouldn’t return a plethora of results.
However if you were searching – ‘what to do in New York if you like cycling, good coffee, vegetarian food, and independent shops that offer quality and style with a simple kind 0f Italian Riviera meets modern scandinavian meets Japanese chic aesthetic, interspersed with a bit of culture’ then you might find a couple of useful addresses below.

Restaurants

Nix   Delicious and imaginative vegetarian food.

The Butchers Daughter   Juice bar and café and great place for brunch.

Burette   Part restaurant, part bar, part café, good for a post shopping glass of wine.

Tam   Falafel and smoothie bar, for when you need a bite to eat on the go.

Coffee

Merriweather Good coffee, stylish interior, relaxed atmosphere.

La Pecora Bianca  Italians always do a good coffee.

The Smile If you visit the Smile Café at 177 Franklin Street, you have the added bonus of popping into Shin0la, beautiful hand-crafted products produced by American craftsmen.

Shops

Utility Canvas Simple, practical and stylish designs, made in the USA.

Enfold Super stylish Japanese women’s wear – not available in the UK yet, so a great place to find something unique.

  1. Check out Bike New York if you’re in NYC during any of their bike tours. The best is the Five Boro Bike Tour, usually on the first Sunday in May – it’s on May 7, 2017 next year. They close off traffic so you can ride through all five boroughs of NYC – a GREAT way to see the city! It’s not a race, so you can take your time and enjoy the sites along the way. I rode with my sister this past year – it poured and was 45 degrees farenheit, yet over 30,000 people showed up, including little children! It was a load of fun with lots of beautifully diverse people and good food/pubs along the way and at the end of the tour: http://www.bike.nyc
